X-Yachts Ostsee Cup 2005

The perfect base for the event
Almost thirty X-Yachts competed in this year’s Baltic Cup. The Marina Sonwik was the perfect base for the event with its brand-new landing stage and latest facilities ashore.

It was Saturday and a wonderful Summer’s day, but the lack of wind made a start impossible and so the participants used the opportunity to compete in a lively water battle on the Flensburger Fiord. Other yachts passed the time by sailing into the inner harbour of Flensburg, where a “Dragon boat” race provided much entertainment and amusement.

At about 16.00 hrs., the Race Officer, Hajo Andresen, from the organizing yacht club, Flensburger Segel Club, decided to send the yachts and sailors back to the Marina for a cold drink. Later in the evening, everyone gathered at the nearby Beach club to enjoy a sumptuous and delicious buffet, while a live band ensured a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.

The winner of the Baltic Cup 2005
On the Sunday morning, there was a light breeze, enough to have two starts, and enough to find the winner of the Baltic Cup 2005: an X-79 “v. Schönwetter”, which translates from the German as “beautiful weather”, a suitably apt name for the winning boat in the two races.
